Paper, porcelain, compass and seismograph were the most important Han dynasty inventions. In fact, credit of the invention of gun powder and manufacturing of steel also goes to China. It is said that paper was invented in 105AD by Cai Lun an eunuch of the Han Dynasty.
Artefact 2: Siesmograph
The seismograph is the earliest instrument in the world for predicting and reporting the movement of an earthquake. It is one of the cleverest inventions in ancient China. The seismograph is made from brass decorated with beautiful images of frogs, dragons, birds and other animals. If there is an earthquake, the copper ball will fall out of the dragon’s mouth into the frog’s mouth. There are eight dragons pointing in eight directions to show where the earthquake is coming from. In 132AD, Zhang Heng, an astronomer and scientist invented the seismograph, an instrument that told them when an earthquake was about to happen so they could prepare.
